More About Not Defined By FND's Booklet

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a condition that often goes unnoticed in the community. At Not Defined By FND, we are on a mission to change that!

One of our main goals is to shine a spotlight on FND and increase awareness about this often misunderstood disorder. To make this happen, we are teaming up with experts and organizations to develop an engaging booklet about FND for the general public. This initiative will not only educate individuals about FND, but also foster understanding and support for those living with the disorder.

FND Awareness

With the general public in mind as our target audience, simple and easy-to-understand language will be used to discuss the following topics:

  • the wide range of symptoms

  • hypothesized etiologies and the challenges of determining its root cause

  • the history of the disorder and the stigma attached to it

  • the available treatment options

  • explore strategies to support oneself or others during flare-ups

FND Manual

By targeting specific entities, we aim to create a more informed and supportive environment for individuals with FND. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by this condition. Some of the target entities for the distribution of the booklet, as well as reasoning, include:

  • Government and community programs: by raising awareness in these settings, we can ensure that individuals with FND receive the support and understanding they need and deserve, as well as improve resource accessibility.

    • Schools, after-school programs

    • Social services

  • Medical facilities: helping to improve the diagnosis and treatment of FND and making information available to both clinicians and patients, as well as cut down on medical costs for both facilities and patients.

    • Hospitals

    • Urgent cares

    • Doctors’ offices

  • Public servants/government officials: It is crucial to educate them about FND and how it may impact individuals in their communities. By increasing awareness among law enforcement, we can ensure that individuals with FND are treated with compassion and understanding.

    • Police officers

    • Judges

FND Life Change

Upon completion, we aim to offer the booklet in both physical and digital formats. Our ultimate goal is to make it as easily accessible as the asthma or high blood pressure booklets currently available at your family doctor's office.

Now that you have been introduced, we are eager to hear your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. What topics do you recommend? Which other entities should be included? Please share your input with us! Comment, connect with us on social media, or email us! Thanks in advance! :)
